The LHC and it's face-off with "The God Particle" (The Higgs Boson).
The Collider, the Particle and a Theory About Fate
The LHC is under attack by the particle it is trying to discover
Unless you're a physicist, you probably have ZERO clue as the what the Large Hadron Collider really does. Most who think they do, say it's to create mini-black holes. Wrong. The main goal of the LHC is to try and find physical proof of sub-atomic particles that exist only in theory. One of those particles is the Higgs Boson. It is called the "god particle", because theoretically one Higgs particle can be in every state of the Universe, at any given moment in time. In order for everything to work by the standard model, the Higgs MUST mathematically exist.
But some physicists say that we will not be able to ever find proof of it because any proof of it in the future, cancels itself out in the past based on it's super destructive and un-predictable nature. But without physical proof, the particle isn't real. Math can describe it, but what is it fundamentally? Like Einstein said “For those of us who believe in physics, this separation between past, present and future is only an illusion.”. So basically, if the the Higgs Boson DOES exist in the past, present and future at the same time, it is in a way preventing us limited beings from finding it. For example, maybe the reason is because we would use it to make insane weapons 10000x bigger than our largest nuclear weapon. Therefore the possible future where we destroy ourselves, is coming back to the now, and preventing us from finding the Higgs.
But then again, if the past, present and future exist at the same time, then only now exists, and the now is preventing us from finding the particle.
Duh.
